Why I visit the Cuckmere Valley to take Landscape Photographs

I wanted to show this selection of images as I feel connected to the landscape here and feel as though the opportunities for photographers are endless. On every visit to the coast, the river has slightly altered its course, creating unique opportunities. The water levers in-land and at sea are tidal so differ throughout the day. How the light falls on the landscape changes throughout the year and adjusts how the viewer feels when reacting to an image. The landscape also feels so dramatic and wild and includes some very iconic scenes.

For me, the Cuckmere Valley is almost always top of my list when heading out to take landscape photographs.

The views on offer from Seaford Head, High and Over and those overlooking the oxbow River at Cuckmere Haven are without a doubt some of the best Sussex, if not the country has on offer.

Then there's the magic of Friston Forest, filled with its glorious beech trees, endless steps and meandering paths. Cyclists and dog walkers adore this hilly playground. I love the light here on a foggy morning as it streaks between the straight columns and the leading lines, which hold a lot of attraction when composing an image.

Among the seasonal wetlands, snaking river, saltmarshes and rolling hills are the quaint villages of Alfriston, East Dean and Litlington. They hold much of the historic English charm, which attracts so many people to the UK. Impressive thatched cottages and beautiful gardens fill these pretty villages alongside old-style tearooms, foody pubs, quirky shops, a brewery and ancient churches.

Hopefully, in a few months time, I shall be able to run my photography walks again.

I'd love to share this landscape with those looking to improve their photography knowledge.

Do get in touch, if this sounds of interest and I'll keep you updated.

You can find more information about the walks here.

I thought that for those who live close or plan to visit the area in the near future might find the map below of some help. I’ve highlighted my favourite locations for photography with a pin and written a very short description.
