Lewes Photography Workshop

Lewes Photography Workshop (3-hour session)

Join me for a 3-hour photography adventure through the charming town of Lewes, full of beautiful streets, unusual doors, attractive gardens, and cobbled lanes. This workshop combines practical camera guidance with creative exploration in one of Sussex’s most picturesque towns.

What we’ll explore

We’ll start in Southover Grange Gardens, where we’ll have a quick introduction to camera basics and settings. You’ll then have the chance to experiment with composition and exposure while photographing flowers, statues, and inquisitive squirrels in the gardens.

After this, we’ll regroup to discuss what worked well for you, what you enjoyed, and areas to improve. I’ll provide feedback and tips to help make your images more dynamic and show different creative approaches.

Next, we’ll head up Keere Street, a wonderfully steep cobbled lane, and continue along the main road to Lewes Castle. We’ll then descend towards Pells Pool and the River Ouse, stopping along the way to capture street scenes, architecture, and everyday life. You’ll also have the opportunity to photograph local wildlife, and if you’re feeling adventurous, we can take some action shots at the skatepark.

For those keen to capture sunset, we’ll finish by heading up Chapel Hill towards the golf course, where sweeping views of the River Ouse winding to the coast make a perfect backdrop for golden-hour photography.

Who it’s for

This workshop is suitable for photographers of all levels – from beginners to enthusiasts looking to experiment with manual camera settings. Groups are kept small (maximum 8 participants) to ensure plenty of personal guidance in a relaxed and friendly atmosphere.

What you’ll walk away with

By the end of the session, you’ll:

  • Feel confident using your camera in manual mode

  • Have a portfolio of diverse images, from gardens and cobbled streets to river scenes and sunset landscapes

  • Gain practical skills in composition, light, and creative framing

  • Leave inspired with new ideas for exploring your camera and seeing Lewes in fresh ways

  • Camera/photography workshop in Lewes - Thanks James, picked up some key pointers for camera use, and thanks for sharing your experience and guidance on getting my eye in for photos. Especially in not the easiest of conditions. I'd definitely recommend this for those starting out with DSLR's.

He covered all the basics and some intermediate techniques, and he chose a great route around Lewes, which was new to my friend. He was really helpful and attentive to everyone's needs, and I would definitely go on another.
