Cuckmere Haven - Photography workshop

Cuckmere Haven Photography Workshop (3-hour session)

Join me for a 3-hour photography adventure in one of Sussex’s most dramatic landscapes. From the snaking River Cuckmere to the iconic Seven Sisters cliffs, this workshop combines sweeping views with hands-on guidance to help you capture stunning images.

What we’ll explore

We’ll meet at the Exceat car park by the water’s edge, where we’ll begin with a short introduction covering basic manual camera settings.

From there, we’ll head up the hill for breathtaking views of the meandering River Cuckmere, a perfect opportunity to practice composition and framing in a dynamic landscape. We’ll continue along the South Downs Way, approaching the cliff edge where outstanding vistas span the estuary and the Seven Sisters cliffs toward Birling Gap.

If time and tides allow, we’ll descend to the beach to photograph the sunset, capturing reflections and low-light textures. Alternatively, the sunset can be enjoyed from the cliff-top vantage point, which also provides spectacular views.

Along this stretch of the river and estuary, keep an eye out for local wildlife: herons, egrets, kingfishers, oystercatchers, and other waterbirds – a chance to add movement and life to your landscape shots.

Our return walk follows the easy paved river path, finishing with a final elevated view of the river’s ox-bow, giving you a variety of perspectives on this remarkable landscape.

Who it’s for

This workshop is suitable for photographers of all levels – from beginners wanting to learn manual camera control to enthusiasts seeking new landscape photography techniques. Groups are small (maximum 8 participants) to ensure personalised guidance in a relaxed and friendly environment.

What you’ll walk away with

By the end of the session, you’ll:

  • Have confidence using your camera in manual mode for landscapes, reflections, and wildlife

  • Capture a portfolio of stunning images featuring the river, cliffs, estuary, beach, and wildlife

  • Gain practical skills in composition, light, and creative framing

  • Leave inspired with new ideas for exploring both your camera and the South Downs
